Why T1 in 30-45 Days Matters: Inside a Mould Project Timeline
What happens between DFM approval and first shots - and why a firm 30-45 day T1 schedule beats a vague promise.
Buyers often ask why a mould cannot ship in two weeks. The honest answer: a good tool is not machined in one pass - it is designed, reviewed, cut, fitted, trialled and corrected. This guide walks through what happens between your 3D model and T1 samples, and why a firm 30-45 day schedule is a sign of a disciplined shop rather than a slow one.
What the 30-45 Day Window Covers
Simple single-cavity PP tools typically reach T1 in 30-35 days. Multi-cavity tools with automatic unscrewing or valve-gate hot runners run 40-45 days. These are T1 (first trial) dates, not delivery dates - you get a firm schedule in the quotation, and DFM feedback before steel is cut.
Step 1: DFM Review (Before Steel Is Cut)
We review your 3D model for draft angles, wall thickness, gate location, ejection and cooling. Problems found here cost hours; problems found in steel cost days. Approve the DFM report and the timeline is locked.
Step 2: Design and Machining
Tooling design, then machining on high-speed CNC centres (Makino, Charmilles) with 4- and 5-axis capability, slow wire-cut EDM, precision EDM and optical curve grinding. Roughing and finishing are programmed, not improvised.
Step 3: Fitting and Assembly
Cores and cavities are fitted, slides and lifters checked for movement, and cooling channels pressure-tested. A mould that is difficult to assemble is difficult to maintain - fitting time is quality time.
Step 4: T1 Trial on Our Presses
In-house trial on Haitian presses from 80T to 450T means you see real shots from the real tool before shipment. T1 machine time and basic material cost are included in the mould price - no separate trial fee.
What Can Slow a Project Down
Three things usually: late part-design changes after DFM approval, approvals that sit unanswered, and specialty steels with long procurement. That is why we ask for design freeze at DFM sign-off, and why material choices are locked in the quotation.
Why a Firm Date Beats a Fast Promise
Any shop can promise fast; a good one schedules. Our quotations carry a committed T1 date for your specific tool, not an industry average. Ask any supplier: what is the T1 date for THIS tool? A vague answer is an answer.
Getting Started
Send your 3D model (STEP/IGS/X_T), annual volume and target material. You get a DFM report, a transparent quotation, and a schedule you can hold us to.
